Study finds pirates 10 times more likely to buy music | Music | guardian.co.uk.
A report from the BI Norwegian School of Management has found that those who download music illegally are also 10 times more likely to pay for songs than those who don’t.
I’ve always looked upon file sharing of music as “try before you buy”. There are two types of illegal downloaders, the one that “try before you buy” and the ones that were “never going to pay for music” in the first place. In the case of the never “going to pay for music” the music industry has lost nothing because they were never going to get anything anyway. In the case of the “try before you buy” downloader, the torrent sites such as thepiratebay and isohunt are actually promoting the music for free, the music industry should be embracing them as partners and not prosecuting them. Just my 2 cents.
