I’ve been unable to post for the last week as I’ve been working in Bushmills Distillery over in Northern Ireland. I took my MP3 player which has a good selection of music for when I go running as well as the pit workouts converted to MP3, my deck of cards and my Gymboss timer so I was still able to workout while I was over there.
I managed to visit a couple of places, one was the “Giants Causeway”. An amazing formation of hexagonal rock formations that have to be seen to be believed. The pattern that you see in the causeway stones was formed as a result of rock crystallization under conditions of accelerated cooling, this usually occurs when molten lava comes into immediate contact with water, as happens today in Hawaii the resulting fast accelerated cooling process causes cracking and results in what you see today at the causeway. Check out the legend of how it was supposedly formed in the visitors center.
Another place I managed to visit was the Carrick-a-Rede rope bridge. It is a little walk out to the rope bridge but the views make the hike all worthwhile. The bridge is on land owned by the National Trust and is protected by a wall and gate that was closed when we got there so I climbed over and walked out onto the bridge. The bridge connects a very tiny island to the mainland and was originally constructed using a single plank and ropes so that fisherman could get to the island and fish for the Salmon that migrate past. The gap is thirty feet wide and the bridge eighty feet high (Not for the faint hearted). The Carrick-a Rede Rope Bridge is located on the North Antrim Coast, east of Ballintoy.
This is yours truly on the wrong side (depending on how you want to look at it) of the gate in front of the Carrick-a Rede Rope Bridge.
I was also taken on an “unofficial” tour of the Bushmills Distillery, the oldest distillery in the world, thanks Raymond. At the start of the “official” tour, the guide will ask for a couple of volunteers. Be ready to put your hand up and you’ll get selected to taste around 8 or 9 whiskies at the end of the tour (Make sure you’re aren’t driving though!)
